Bottega Veneta leads individuality with Issue 01 Zine
After quitting social media, Italian brand Bottega Veneta created a nostalgic refuge for the brand’s consumers. The launch of the digital Issue zine comes at a time when people are thinking about the excess of virtual spaces and how anything can become disposable very fast.
The brand's creative director Daniel Lee told The Guardian: “Social media represents the homogenization of culture. Everyone sees the same stream of content. A huge amount of thought goes into what I do, and social media oversimplifies it.”
And Bottega Veneta definitely doesn’t fit into anything homogeneous or disposable. Issue 01 brings together audiovisual content, music, and photos with creative collabs like Barbara Hulanicki, Jonathan Frantini, and Missy Elliott working together.
Issue 01 is connected to last summer's collection Salon 01, in which Lee explored the concept of people as objects of desire, the beauty of the male body, and the construction of attention to the female body represented in his designs.
The chunky shoes are crafty in homespun and finish in gummy tactile leather, always in vibrant colors and with a home-comfort aesthetic. Same with softer design bags in different colors of smooth or woven leather. The genderless tire boots unite the men's + women's designs in a single object of desire.
Salon 01 is the expansion of Lee's vision, innovating the concept of how to present a collection and to maintain the strength of a brand's name without giving in to the pressures of social media. With books, Zine, and authorial music, Lee got a multi-sensory experience with the phone turned off.
Hood by Air is coming back, let’s talk about it.
