With Naomi Campbel, Hood by Air makes their return to ready-to-wear
After a hiatus of 4 years, Hood by Air is back in full force for an unforgettable return, all backed by queen NAOMI CAMPBEL. In a collection called Prologue, the founder of the brand, Shayne Oliver, decided to pay tribute to the strength of black women, especially the women in his life with three different narratives: Mother, Veteran, and Merch.
Campbel is the personality chosen for Mother ‘cause in Oliver's words, she represents a mother in the world of fashion for several people. The collection will maintain the label’s hard-edged, gender-fluid aesthetic but it will also add deconstructed elements to accompany innovation, like the leather pants constructed with oversized, zippered pockets akin to detachable pouches.
The designs that mark the official re-entry of the brand into ready-to-wear are inspired by the time that the brand — and Oliver — have been away, hibernating. These pieces, as well as the entire collection, transcend style and push into function. The cropped bomber jacket is made with elongated, tapered sleeves that snap together like a straightjacket. It totally escapes the basics to enter the future.
All this is immortalized in Luis Alberto Rodriguez's photos, marked silhouettes, mystery, and purity with a total focus on forms. There's still no release date, so keep your eyes open for HBA webstore. Hood by Air's Prologue has just begun.
