Eye/LOEWE/Nature FW21 serves sustainable materials
Inspired by the great outdoors, LOEWE's FW21 offers timely commentary on fashion's relationship with nature ― all delivered in the label's classically eclectic style.
Artful yet pragmatic, the line is designed to be worn outdoors, reminding us of the upscale-meets-al fresco energy that kicked off 2021 with the Gucci x The North Face collab.
Durability and aesthetic aren't the only environmentally focused elements of the line ― the collection takes a major focus on upcycling, solidifying LOEWE's sustainability stance. The heavy use of recycled materials like lasting leather and suede along with environmentally-safe overdyeing not only limit the label's eco-impact, but allow for each piece of the collection to be given a unique touch.
Keeping in line with the house's established aesthetic of experimental forms and vibrant statements, the built-for-outdoors line doesn't lose any high-fashion prestige with a variety of fabrics, styles, and colors ― forming a distinctly unique look that mashes elements of vintage and military wear into sportswear styles. Eccentric silhouettes are built generously yet practical, accompanied by detailed taping that provides both style and function. Among the collection, you can expect an overload of natural materials to achieve lasting pieces, including a heavy use of genuine calfskin for their durability-focused accessories and footwear.
Standout pieces include a black army-style boot in Italian split calfskin, built for durability that complements its utilitarian aesthetic. For a less rugged, cozy look, you can opt for a smooth suede slipper with a LOEWE embroidered grosgrain tab across the top, lined in premium calfskin. The line also features plenty of crafted-to-last adventure accessories in addition to eclectic apparel, including a vibrant neck pocket and an elegantly embossed key fob case, both finished in calfskin.
"I think Eye/LOEWE/Nature Spring Summer 2020 shows how I see the Loewe man: he is kind of day-to-day, but at the same time wants to experiment," creative director Jonathan Anderson explains. "In a weird way there is a conservatism to him, but there is an eccentricity inside."
