Celine's leather-focused collection wants Gen Z.
Before the bangs came the quiff hair. And before spending hours planning a drip that would match their Instagram feed, people would go to parties combining Dr. Martens with jackets, and this was their board style.
Celine's current creative director Hedi Slimane lived it all to the core, and it goes without saying that "in my time it was better." In the era of club nights, the glam, the grunge, and the metal kids all in one place, showing off everything they were with big boots, spiked hair, and too-dark or too-shiny make-up.
There's nothing like the time to show that when it comes to style, everything can come back, and get better. Did Slimane think about e-boys, new emos, and skaters? Definitely. The brutal pieces of this season came on wheels, but the designer chose a motorcycle and professional freestyle motocross riders to deliver the collection.
In the introductory video recorded in the south of France, leather reigns supreme in this collection, in pants, jackets with big sleeves, chokers, and of course: boots. They’re pieces created for the new generation of rebels, for those who are brave enough to be daring and have already grown up in a world that discarded labels.
Cosmic Cruiser is like a party that everyone wants to be invited to, but only the sickest guys will join.
