We already listened to Luke James' live album. Get our thoughts.
We all have love songs, even playlists full of them, but a new love is always exciting, right? With Luke James, it's going to be something at first sight.
Sometimes, it can be hard to find adjectives to talk about some people, but not the rising-actor, multi-talented creative, and Grammy-nominee Luke James. Owner of a voice that slowly burns R&B melodies and would easily leave Marvin Gaye speechless, the artist knows how to make everything more passionate.
His acclaimed album To Feel Love/d is proof of that. After being nominated for the Grammy for Best R&B Album in 2020 — being the only independent release in the category — James decided to present the world with A Live Sensation, a live retelling of the recording with Sam Hyken, Jacomo Bairos, and his orchestra of 30 members from Miami, Nu Deco Ensemble.
We were privileged to hear all this experience firsthand before the official release on Friday, September 24. Recorded at the memorable Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, A Live Sensation was turned into a benefit concert for the Backing the B.A.R. initiative, which raises resources to bars and restaurants owned by black people amid the COVID-19 strikes.
The aesthetics of the presentation follow what we see in the fluid, striking, and honest artist. These characteristics are present in the countless editorials that accompany James' successes, such as the ones for Mood, Fault, and Vestal magazines, showing his authentic personality in leather pieces.
The whole atmosphere of the place and the presence of Nu Deco Ensemble elevate the melodies to an intoxicating and almost spiritual experience. James' voice opens up countless dimensions, taking his music beyond the understanding of feelings and into places previously unknown.
His soulful energy creates dramatic, nostalgic, and even physical euphoric sensations. Luke James puts all of this out for our ears and the world, with definitely a lot of love.
