Vanity Fair Chair & more bout the centenary Poltrona Frau
POLTRONA FRAU is a fiercely creative Italian furniture brand in constant pursuit of design perfection, and not for nothing, the brand celebrates over a century of existence. Born in 1912, the landmark is well know for the furniture it has created, and has become synonymous with quality and good design over the decades. It is no wonder the brand has its own museum.
Between so many incredible designs by the brand, our eyes were drawn to one of the first and most loved of the modern armchairs.
Officially called “model 904” but known, since 1984, as Vanity Fair, over time this seat has become the emblem of Poltrona Frau. It is thought that the project, which first went into production in 1930, was developed on the basis of designs that Renzo Frau left his wife, Savina.
The supporting structure of the Vanity Fair armchair is made from solid seasoned beech and the padding uses both hand-shaped vegetable horsehair, and rubberised horsehair and the seat cushion is in goose down. The seat, backrest and armrest spring system consists of hand-tied steel biconical springs attached to jute belts. To finish, a row of leather-covered pins refines the back and sides of the armchair.
The brand carries a lot of history in its chairs and embodies a rich design history while setting gorgeous trends for the future. Like the Vanity, the DU 30 armchair is also an iconic design: created in late 1953, this is certainly Gastone Rinaldi’s most famous piece. In fact, it was awarded the Compasso d’Oro, then known as the Compasso d’Oro-Rinascente, in 1954, the first year the prize was presented.
Each Frau collection begins with a meticulous selection of the finest materials to ensure lifelong quality and comfort. All crafted in leather, the Louise chair is also a versatile armchair. Both seats, with their clean and measured design, are stylish additions to the living room or study, but also perfect in offices or public spaces. The upholstery also in Pelle Frau® leather.
