Tokyo Trio three new leather studded GEL-LYTE III drops
Inspired by different elements of Tokyo, three new versions of the iconic GEL-LYTE™ III sneaker are set to be released soon. Continuing his long-established relationship with ASICS, designer Ronnie Fieg said in his Gram that "Since 2007, there’s only been one year I didn’t release a Gel Lyte III. That stat will always bother me. We’ll make up for it this year" — and he was not kidding.
Coinciding with the brand’s 10th anniversary, the streetwear and sneaker retailer KITH has just opened its first international flagship store, in Tokyo, Japan. Located in the Miyashita Park North, in Shibuya, this opening marks the brand’s global reach expansions at a steady-yet-substantial pace.
We are having too much trouble figuring out which we like the most, and after learning all the details below you will be too, for sure.
The GEL-LYTE™ III 252.1 shoe is FIEG’s reimagining of his first-ever collaboration from 2007, known as the 252 Pack. The original was inspired by a Tokyo-exclusive colorway that Fieg wanted to bring stateside. This new rendition retains elements of the original’s color palette, but through a modern lens.
The primarily black upper features premium nubuck with metallic gold leather ASICS stripes and a pigskin suede red toe.
The GEL-LYTEâ„¢ III Yoshino Rose sneaker takes its name from the yoshino cherry tree, otherwise known as a sakura tree, which is known in Tokyo for its beautiful cherry blossoms. During the cherry blossom season, these trees bloom into a stunning shade of light pink and are celebrated in Japan.
This model features a white mesh vamp and leather toe wrap that is overlayed with soft off-white pigskin suede panels and rose-colored tiger stripes.
Finally, the Super Gold serves up a medal stand-inspired build. A nod to the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Super Gold uses a supple white leather upper with red and blue accents for a possible nod to the US Olympic Team — whom FIEG and KITH designed tracksuits for. Metallic gold tiger stripes add a finishing touch of style.
The Tokyo Trio just dropped on kith.com and the only Kith shops to carry this release will be the Tokyo flagship, Hirshleifers, Bergdorf Goodman, and Selfridges. Each pair is priced at $180 USD.
