This Is Us actress Eris Baker unfiltered interview
Starring in NBC’s critically acclaimed This Is Us since she was 10 yo, now 16, Eris Baker has grown on and off the screen.
Just like her character, Tess Pearson, Eris has been working toward finding her own identity and giving voice to those who aren’t being heard.
“My parents have always just taught me just to use my voice, so I never thought that I was really doing something until I recognized that a lot of voices weren't being heard."
Taking the sneakerhead legacy from her father, owning a collection of leather staples, putting comfy clothes above all, and being strongly connected to her faith are just some glimpses of how street style and authenticity have been part of her journey.
"I think it just all goes back to just what I believe in, my beliefs, my desires and, you know, the things that I wanna see in the world.”
During an unfiltered chat, we found that she grew up around the sickest kicks – like AJs and Nike Dunks – basically, all of them curated by that one person that literally saw her being born.
“I love sneakers. My dad has a really nice sneaker collection and I've really taken inspiration from them. My dad just keeps up with the latest sneakers. So, I always tell him, ‘When you go get a pair, get me the same pair in my size,’ because I just know it's gonna be good."
Talk about role model, right?
From a young age, Baker has been drawn to fashion. It all started with small supermarket brand bags – which opened the door to a passion for high-end design – and with her mom teaching her how to appreciate and care for purses.
“When I got older, my mom told me, ‘You can have a purse now because you respect purses and you've been wearing them growing up.’ That's definitely always an accessory I don't leave the house without."
Also, she’s been really into leather boots lately, like Timberland's or Steve Madden's. A great way to complement any outfit with an extra touch of daringness.
“I'm really getting into boots. With a dress on, I get my purse, I get my glasses, and I'm out of the house and I'm good.”
Having such an immaculate sense of style, Baker’s been listed on best-dressed lists for Allure, Vogue, and Elle, among others.
“I just love to wear what I think just looks good. And I think that I always felt uncomfortable just following the daily trends of fashion.”
She did find herself and used her wardrobe as both a voice for her outspoken individuality and a therapeutic experience.
“Sometimes, when I felt very sad, I would put on my best clothes. I think that fashion is for anyone and everyone, and I think that it's something that you just have fun with."
With the end of the series that was her career breakthrough, we can hardly wait for what Eris is gonna bring our way next.
