The Carlotta Residence by MWA.
Architecture and design really are able to create and recreate realities, make you relive distant sensations, and build those same sensations anywhere in the world with the right materials. That was the central goal of the Carlotta Residence, to make the house owners, now in Double Bay, Sydney, feel again the urban energy of NYC, Chicago, and London.
And it was the choice of materials that made it possible, according to Matthew Woodward Architecture.
"There is a rawness and an exposure to life in these cities, and those feelings get captured in the architecture, the materials, and the way they are expressed," Says the project description.
The shape of the house was suited to the type of terrain, a narrow descent surrounded by natural vegetation, it's a good thing they're not in NYC anymore. The floors were divided into wide, open spaces with huge windows that ensure natural light and, of course, access to the landscape.
Everything remained natural also in the chosen materials, the urban atmosphere came with the concrete that covers the walls and floor, ‘cause brutalism can be welcoming, as we've already shown you here. With the interior decoration by Esoteriko, the kitchen became the main meeting place, concentrating a large open counter for preparing meals, the dining table at the side, and a small room with timeless leather armchairs to receive guests. An Eames is strategically positioned facing the green and close to the fireplace. It must be a hotspot.
The TV room houses a huge matte leather sofa, leaving the environment cozy and fresh, with enough seating for everyone, including the dog. The additional armchairs in this space show that the TV is not really the main attraction, but the experiences inside this house.
Office, bedrooms, and even the space to sit under the stairs have remained faithful to natural and durable materials. More than just a home, the Carlotta Residence is a reflection of the residents' personality, their naturally grand spirit and that of the big cities they love.
What can be more natural? A treehouse.
