that's what Vitra just did
Take 125 completely unique chairs — some from the 1800s, others are straight off the 3D printer —, now blend this timeline of classic & modern seating designs into a film. That's what Vitra just did.
"Chair Times" film is now free to stream on The Vitra Design Museum website, telling the many sides of the history of chairs from 1800 to today. Through an ocean of chairs, the production features many experts, such as designers Antonio Citterio & his incredible leather chairs, and Hella Jongerius with her East River piece, architects and collectors like Arthur Rüegg and Ruggero Tropeano, and collection curator Serge Mauduit.
As the film states, chairs are important witnesses of their time. The ability to continue telling this history is thanks to timeless designs and long-lasting materials like leather which keep consistent even if the production methods & ideas change.
