Not your ordinary bike ride to the grocery store
Summertime is made for biking around in the hopes of escaping confinement for a bit & enjoying fresh air, and we have a few ideas for how you can do that.
The latest BMX collab between Bogarde & Dior is so deluxe they only made 150 pieces of the purely limited-edition Dior signature that wraps the bike in premium leather. Even J Balvin wanted a piece of the gold edition.
The duo's third collab is just one of the bikes that's been part of the designer bike movement. We've already talked about the classic Louis Vuitton monogram that's all over a leathery BMX bike, but the will to take something banal & turn it into a premium piece is not limited to these two designs.
From Balenciaga, Supreme, Ralph Lauren, Fendi, Hermès, Gucci, Comme des Garçons & so on, they all have something in common: meticulously stitched leather accents on the saddle, handlebar grips and on the inner tubes of the frame. Sometimes, even the whole bike is wrapped in leather (we see you Louis Vuitton).
The ticket to ride these bikes is kind of pricey, but if you have a spare few thousand in the bank they're worth the investment. The fuss around designer bikes got real over the last few years, highlighting the increased demand for a more sustainable lifestyle, as the attention over deluxe cars became more divided. All of that BMXing movement, which has always been connected with rappers, was also inspired by hip-hop culture thru history and vice versa.
The concept of sustainable luxury meets the idea of a healthy environment with the goal of living a 5-star life. When you mix together a durable (that you can use over & over again) yet forever classic material like leather with a vehicle that doesn't need any gas, you get a timeless bike — even if it's a product of mass culture.
