MM6 SS21 collection: quintessential Margiela thinking
MM6's team designed the whole SS21 collection from home. And if a production process meets today's reality, the final pieces also do.
The brand found in the alternative realities of today a mirror to the trompe l’oeil aesthetics of MM6 — the same that plays with perspectives and mindsets. The brand's goals were to question the corporate & embrace the domestic.
Maison Margiela's contemporary line brought to reality the brand's heritage of leathercraft into new and fresh cuts. A great example of that is the Japanese Bag in a triangle shape inspired by origami. This leather bag made in Italy also has a snap button on the edges, allowing a change in its shape just like any origami.
Going in the flow of sharper cuts, MM6's Spring/Summer '21 collection presented leather clothes in basic shapes, such as the straight-leg fitted trousers and circle shirt.
In footwear news, the 6-heel square boots presented Maison's square top shape in a hairy suede for a different finish in the new drops.
But if you're on the lookout for a sneakers drop, the 6-cylinder sneakers share a light-weighted pair in pure suede, leather, and a statement air bubble sore for the retro-futuristic look the brand knows so well.
