meet the Kinship Method Experiment
A technique that keeps evolving year after year.
A project called The Kinship Method was exhibited on Stockholm Design Week 2020 & set to explore how designers with different established styles can inspire one another. Specifically, for the project, designers Margot Barolo, Andreas Nobel, Erik Björk, Mmia Cullin & Fredrik Paulsen.
They were set to share their different methods of creating brand new designs & their techniques with multiple materials, like the leathers made by Tärnsjö Garveri, a house of leather from Sweden.
Beginning with each designer creating a chair & then passing their creation to the next designer — who uses 20-40% of the chair’s style and design to create a new chair —, the Method unites unique ideas for an improved piece. & this happens again on a third round.
In total, 15 new collab chairs will be created, uniting artistic expressions, leather craftsmanship, details & generations of furniture design. Oh, the power of changing an individual perspective.
Meet more design generations here.
