Louis Vuitton’s Amen Break.
The masks are gone, summer’s here, and Virgil Abloh seems to be in a good mood and open to fantastic possibilities. At least that's what we saw in his SS ’22 collection called Amen Break, which dropped on the 24th.
The name comes from a little-known 1969 drum solo that became fundamental to hip-hop, sampled countless times. Amen Break, then, ironizes the myth of creativity, showing that reinterpretation has become a vicious cycle for the style industry.
Remember the LV outerwear we showed you here recently? The stuffed animals and frenetic prints are still there, until DJ and model Peggy Gou appeared wearing "the best and funniest" Virgil Abloh.
This season, we have samurai aesthetic, new Nikes, and Black Panther references in a way that feels like fantasy, with transitions between eras and habits.
Printed leather coats with hanging toys, like the flamingo with Peggy Gou, are just the surface. Emblematic jerseys meet non-binary leather skirts, many skirts, actually, focusing on a totally humanized approach to these designs.
The Black Panther-inspired jacket stands out among eccentric, green, shiny, and empowering hats. The presentation video shows oversized pieces everywhere, including gloves, bags in geometric shapes, and there's still a breather for the LV x Nike Air Force 1.
It's the energy coming with the summer.
Keep your feet free this season, here's how.
