La Bande is a contemporary French cafe.
In a nearly 100-year-old building, La Bande cafe was designed by Kelly Wearstler to be part of the San Francisco Proper Hotel. Both projects carry a Secession-era Parisian aesthetic, full of strong elements, but the cafe is an invitation to stop time.
La Bande is French for "the stripe" — and they are in black and white, standing out in the green tiles that cover the place from floor to ceiling. The heart of the place is the counter with bars of Cipollino marble and details in industrial metal surrounded by classic European black leather stools.
The same stools are also at the few tables. There are only 35 places in the café to try a fruit breakfast, a panini with brie and cranberry, or an extremely French onion soup at any time. In the evening, cocktails are served for you to stage your own Midnight in Paris.
A French landscape in NY too.
