Kefan Weng's amber-bathed CGI scenes
Germany-based Chinese photographer Kefan Weng's views on reality and illusion are almost a Matrixian version of Plato's cave.
We came upon his striking images on Instagram and these shots caught our attention: these could easily have been taken on the set of Blade Runner 2049 or maybe could be a picture of how orange and brown California is now with all the wildfires.
In an interview for Beyond Photography, Weng dropped some hits on his work:
Every second we perceive the information from seeing, hearing and all other senses, then the information is processed by our brain, the part which has not been filtered out and we believe builds up our ‘reality’. Therefore, reality applies to individuals quite differently, it varies from personal experience, profession, and also physical condition.
My Instagram profile is a mixture of photographs and CG renders. But not every viewer can tell, or care about the existence of ‘unreal’ photos. An obvious ‘fake’ CG to you might be considered just as a regular photograph by others. I guess eventually, we all just believe in what we want to believe in.
Well, we gotta love the atmosphere in this amber-bathed CGI scenes, but these prove that life does indeed imitate art. Today, we showcase some of his captivating photos which reflect illusionary reality. Hope you find them interesting.
Furthermore, seeing a Porsche 911 and a leather Eames Lounge Chair — 2 of our fave brands of furniture and four wheels — through the creative mind of Kefan Weng is instantly fulfilling for our eyes.
In other news, expect our Metcha x Shoe Surgeon collab to drop on September 18th. ☠️
