Kanye West’s DONDA: is it worth the hype?
When it comes to Kanye West, there’s no doubt he’s going to be on everyone’s minds or on the tip of their tongues for a while.
DONDA’s release, after 3 listening parties that can be seen as a masterpiece in terms of creative performance, makes it clear that this fact hasn’t changed at all.
Demna Gvasalia and Balenciaga’s leather spiky armor have helped Kanye to build — literally — a narrative in tribute to his mother through all the auditions. But not only his childhood house was there in Chicago’s Soldier Field Stadium during the third and last one.
Alongside, we were presented with a lot of other symbolisms that gave us a glimpse of Yeezy’s new era and everything that would come with DONDA.
In the end, as if burning a church wasn’t controversial enough, the performance made room for one true special guest.
Wearing a wedding gown, also by Balenciaga, and with her face covered by a veil, Kim Kardashian recreates a bridal march towards Kanye, ending the night.
All of that leaves us to think that the cult-like performance with touches of mysticism might hold much more than meets the eye. After all, DONDA is one of the most creative album rollouts we all have ever seen.
From bearing his mother’s grief and trying to get back together with his loved one to bringing all of his personas together for the new album, here’s why it’s possible to say that Ye’s DONDA already made history in music.
And you don’t even have to listen to it to agree.
Though the very high expectations for DONDA might be enough reason for people to be disappointed, Kanye’s artistic expression is something unique — or his storytelling abilities. You choose.
As proof, Dominic The Shoe Surgeon also paid his homage to Ye’s last drop with a customized weapon-like YEEZY 700s, obviously inspired by the jacket all covered with spikes worn during listening party #2.
The leather kicks don’t touch, it’s art energy reminds us that no matter what people say about Kanye West, as long as they keep talking about him and don’t mess with him.
