Highest quality of materials makes JBF Customs' kicks unbeatable
Forget everything you know about personalized sneakers. Since he was 16 yo, JBF has been changing the massive footwear market. Ferrato started painting custom colorways onto Nike Dunks, which he shared on streetwear message boards. Then, he worked at a Nike Factory outlet store, where he learned about sneaker culture, and now, he rules from his small kingdom in Cleveland.
Produced with the highest-quality materials available, he reconstructs OG models or craft a brand new silhouette, anything goes for the client's ideal sneaker.
Jacob chose to bring traditional craftsmanship and leatherwork techniques into modern designs long before the big brands started working to value the potential of this material. “There are a lot of cool shoes on the market as far as design goes, but the quality of material and craftsmanship is generally unimpressive,” he told us in an exclusive interview.
“I think it's fun to take those designs and really execute them at the highest level possible, putting my own twist on them.”
His made-to-order process basically eliminates any unnecessary waste, which brings an interesting point about sustainability. If brands think about producing sneakers with recycled materials, they can also make products that don’t go to waste so quickly in the first place. For him, “Shoes made from natural materials will break down over the years and go back into the earth in a way that plastics and synthetics just don't.”
On the brand's website, the customer learns about the century-old and artisanal technique and the durable genuine calfskin used in the production. His ideas go from simple things like overlapping leather in different colors to using embossed prints and even mixing brands and models, as done with this Dr. Martens. And for Reese's, we're not Trick-or-Treat, he turned an AF1 into his favorite peanut butter candy.
“I think that design experimentation and innovation are impacted by the person using the materials more so than the materials themselves. High-quality materials allow you to create products that not only look better — but feel better and last longer.”
Effectively taking his ultra-unique designs to a premium level.
