Gaetano Pesce is one of the most creatives designers alive
Gaetano Pesce is a pioneer Italian designer and architect whose work has continuously reinvented itself over a 50-year career. HIS PROJECTS EXPRESS A GUIDING PRINCIPLE: that modernism is less of a style and rather a method for interpreting the present, and hinting at a future in which individuality is preserved and celebrated.
The Italian master's work across architecture, industrial, and furniture design finds meaning the socio-political world.
Pesce got his models and drawings featured in some of the most renowned collections in the world, like the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, just to name a few.
Born in La Spezia, a coastal city in the north of Italy, Pesce has called NYC home for more than 30 years. With projects ranging from the Pluralist Tower — a proposal for a building in brazil that would have a different architect design every floor — to deconstructed leather chairs and armchairs, PESCE is one of the most creatives artists of the century.
Highlighting the diversity of the Italian designer’s research and experimentation, he also creates amazing furniture pieces, like the SHADOW ARMCHAIR.
This piece's production process involves injecting polyurethane into a leather sack, the polyurethane takes on the shape of the sack rather than a molded cast, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
He is known for his use of viscous materials which congeal in molds to form pieces of sculpture and furniture. The CANNAREGIO SOFA is a modular made of different sofa pieces and different forms & shapes, each piece of the sofa's structural pieces is made of leather.
