Entering the metaverse just got serious.

As the world wears a leather suit while impatiently waiting for the 4th Matrix film, coming next week on the 22nd, the franchise offered a treat to get us even more hyped.

The reality-bending story became interactive with the new The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience — a tech demo free download for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The idea was created at a dinner — of those types we would use a last wish to be able to attend — with Lana Wachowski, Kim Libreri, and John Gaeta, the minds behind the special effects of the 1st Matrix released back in 1999. The whole goal was to introduce the Matrix universe to a younger gaming audience.

The demo showcases the new Unreal Engine 5, a game engine created by Epic Games that will be released only in 2022. This type of engine allows gamers to control the action and build immersive spaces, making every gameplay different. Matrix couldn't be a better fit.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are at the center of this experience. It's pretty difficult to spot the differences between the real-life and CG shots as the big change is that the latter pictures the characters as young as they were in the first movie.
