Dior Men's SS21 collection source of power and creativity drawns
Portrait of an Artist is DIOR'S SPRING/SUMMER 2021 celebration of identity, power of creativity, and art’s ability to transport.
Dior Men's creative director Kim Jones presented his men's fall collection at the new Rubell Museum, in December last year. The location was not by chance and the show already announced the stylist's passion for the art world — born and raised in Miami, the artist Daniel Arsham signed the set design for that show.
And it was on this occasion that Kim had the opportunity to personally know the work of the Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo. Their meeting at the Rubell Museum in Miami was artistic love at first sight as both have a true mutual admiration for each other’s work.
In collaboration with Boafo, Kim Jones debuted his Spring 2021 collection for Dior Home. Amoako is famous for creating large scale portraits. For those wanting to see pieces up close, watch Dior’s theatrical Spring/Summer 2021 presentation below.

Each piece is a collaboration, a dialogue. Amoako Boafo’s artworks are an inspiration but also an essential foundation. Colors are drawn from his vivid, nearly — surreal hues — fluo yellow saturates moiré, alongside blue, coral, and green. Prints are drawn from the graphic patterns that characterize his work. A jacquard of paintbrush strokes is based on a photograph, taken by Kim Jones, of the richly textured canvases in his studio.
In other pieces, embroideries, knitwear, and intarsia literally translate specific works by Amoako Boafo to the wearer’s body. Silhouettes are narrow, streamlined, sportswear-influenced yet with the perfect tailoring characteristic of a Couture house.
