Behind the creation of the AJ XI Prototype
The art in the making of custom OGs.
Each detail of our collab with The Shoe Surgeon that you can win in our giveaway honors the Air Jordan XI legacy. A history that started to imprint ever since it was released by Nike and Michael Jordan in '95. It was MJ's favorite since day 1 & left a mark that even the NBA wasn't ready for.
By spinning the classic design for our collab, Dominic Ciambrone and The Shoe Surgeon's team explored how different leathers can enhance what is already there.

"The biggest focus on any silhouette that we touch is to really maintain the integrity of the design and to only enhance what's already there. The Jordan 11 has such an amazing history and it's such a classic silhouette," said Dominic in the talk we had about the process.
By replacing timeless materials choices of the OG colorway, our design twist enhanced the silhouette with premium tumbled leather. The patent leather on the rand was replaced with the exclusive tie-dyed tumbled leather. 'Cause if there's one thing 2020 keeps proving is that tie-dye is the absolute peak of DIY — a movement the TSS team encourages every day in The Shoe School.
"When you think about tie-dye, it's really about giving something a new life, repurposing it, or even revitalizing it. So, switching that iconic patent leather to a black and white tie-dye really gives it a fresh look," says Nate Photavath, the Design Director of TSS.
