Air Max Day came with worldwide drops like the long-awaited 2004
Feeling a lot like early-Christmas, this year's Air Max Day in the midst of its 34th anniversary is taking place worldwide for an immersive virtual experience. From Berlin's Air Max Evo music mash-up challenge to a sneaker-talk in Dubai with a panel of trail-blazing women. Basically, a virtual itinerary that doesn't leave anything behind to celebrate the what-should-be-a-holiday date for sneaker fanatics.
The most long-awaited drop of the date must be the Nike Air Max 90 Bacon — just because in 2021, everything old in the sneaker world is new again. With a range of shades inspired by bacon, from raw to crispy, the contrasting color-blocking leather uppers reprises the first pair released in 2004. Sold-out in just a few minutes, the revamp was sold at the SNKRS app for $140 USD.
🥓 It might seem like a comeback of the now gone Bacon Mania era in which every trendy dining place had a bacon framed on the wall (the era even has a Wiki page, we're not kidding), but the AM 90 Bacon's roots go way back. The meat-inspired colorway was actually an idea that DQM founder Dave Ortiz landed on just days before his deadline after realizing something he often says: "It’s just sneakers. It’s not that serious."
Going with the grain of longing to make sneakers fun again, the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 Cha launches tomorrow as a comeback of the first collab between Nike and CLOT back in 2006. Featuring a semi-translucent outsole, the perforated toe box reveals details of the traditional Chinese practice stamped on the insoles. Premium suede and leather boost the whole upper to create an enchanted feel to a design full of details. This one you can cop for $150 USD on the SNKRS app on March 27th, so set your alarm clock.
Other few special releases of this year's celebration include the Air VaporMax Evo and the Air Max Viva. Both feature innovations thru and thru to represent an iconic silhouette that keeps on bringing new comfort and performance tech and a bright use of leathers and suedes. Coming on the SNKRS website, the first costs $160 USD and the second, $140 USD.
And an Air Max Day would be nothing without a battle of giants. The Nike Air Max 90 Chi-City Special is coming on March 27th for $110 USD. It features the Bulls' hometown's power red in smooth leather uppers as a nod to the major city turned into a style hub. But if you're more of a Laker's person, the LeBron Air Max 95 Home Team, with one of LeBron's all-time favorites silhouettes, might be your pick, costing $170 USD. A rundown of LeBron's career accomplishments and accolades is printed along the shank of each shoe between the leather cascade of yellows and oranges.
Last but not least, the evolution of the Air Max is represented on Nike's first sneaker that showcases the Air technology through a visible window: the Air Max 1. Rebooting the icon on Air Max Day, the Air Max 1 Evolution of Icons fuses historic OGs in an eclectic leather colorway. The pair is available on the SNKRS website for $140 USD, try grabbing yours while you can.
No better way to celebrate the Air Max Day than diving into our SNKRS sesh, just saying.
