5 things u didn't know about Lizzie Armanto
The rough and rowdy world of skateboarding has long held a boys-club mentality, especially at the pro-level — but that's not stopping Lizzie Armanto from shredding her competition.
Quickly rising to international recognition in her early 20s, the pro-skater has paved the way for more women to follow her path into the scene. With a passion for her craft and unfaltering enthusiasm for the culture, her impact is just getting started. Scroll for 5 facts u should know about her asap.
1. She's got legend-level respect
Even if u know nothing about skating, u definitely know about Tony Hawk's game-changing legacy in the sport. Armanto became a record breaker for becoming the first woman to complete the famous The Loop designed by Tony Hawk, and her image was even featured as a character in Hawk's skating videogame.
2. Skating runs in her family
Although she never hit tricks like Lizzie, her mom used to skateboard to get around and eventually bought both her kids' first boards. Refusing to let her brother be better than her, Armato dove in headfirst to the culture — and today her mom even joins her at the skatepark for kicks.
3. She's a true Vans-head
Joining the Vans "This is Off the Wall" campaign as a global face of female skaters, Armanto talked about her connection to the brand which began in her earliest skating years during high school, when she got her first ride-or-die pair that became sentimental to her journey. Since then, she's become known for her kick game which frequently features fresh Vans high-tops wrapped in their durable leather and suede.
4. Her skills are Olympic-level
When skateboarding was declared an Olympic discipline, Armanto revved up to get ready for 2020's competition in Tokyo — although it's since been postponed due to COVID, she's still readying to take on the challenge and show her skills.
5. She takes wipe-outs like a champ
Pro-skaters are no strangers to injury, and Armanto has learned to take wipe-outs head on and get back up — even after a particularly gnarly fall that actually knocked out her front teeth.
