Modern design is all about light, spacious atmospheres, sustainable long-lasting materials, and pops of bold design choices. This Amsterdam apartment got it all, thanks to to the uninhibited work of Unknown Architects.

Unknown Architects created their practice in 2012, founded by Daan Vulkers and Keimpke Zigterman, and have since grown to work with a variety of private and corporate clients all over the globe along with earning exhibitions with several modern museums including the Deutsches Architektur Museum in Frankfurt and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp. Their signature style is refined with an eye for detail, and always conscious of the context they work in.

With their consistent goal of creating unique and sustainable buildings using modern design practices and high quality materials like leather, they took on the challenge of rebuilding this outdated Amsterdam apartment from the inside out. Faced with old-fashioned interiors and poor use of space despite the unit measuring 200 square metres, their work was cut out for them.

The end result was a sleek and spacious interior flooded with natural light and bright walls, brought together by bold red steel columns that added an unexpectedly fun industrial look to the space. As far as furniture, the designers kept up with the sustainable focus of their practice with welcoming leather furniture that looks like you could lounge in it for a lifetime.
