The holiest of all grails the leather strapped Cartier Crash watch
The Persistence of Memory Painting by Salvador Dalí is one of the most recognizable works of Surrealism, and thanks to CARTIER, now you can wear a piece of art on your wrist.
The dripping watch story doesn't have a crystal clear lineage, but the rumors are that they're inspired by a standard model that had been badly misshapen in a car accident. Cartier allegedly recovered one of his brand’s timepieces from the crash and found it had changed shape, oozing out in different directions from the heat of the blaze.
This large, extremely rare, and very fine yellow gold asymmetrical wristwatch has a simple leather strap on and is fitted with an 18k pink or white gold “tear-drop link” bracelet for women of high means. In a variety of robustly thin straps, it's no wonder why Cartier leather straps are a classic fave for many: it's naturally soft, light feel, and made of comfortable material that is both flexible and long lasting.
Regardless of one inspiration or another, this design has been seen on celebs wrists like Kanye's, and the relative simplicity of his Cartier Crash also stands in stark contrast to the baroque bling of Migos, Future and Lil Uzi Vert’s iced-out Pateks.
