The award winning Extruded House by MCK Architects
The creative team at MCK Architects is clearly after our hearts. The group is comprised of young multi-award winning architects based in Sydney, Australia, and known for large scale residential and commercial projects that maintain a distinct aesthetic featuring geometric forms, quality materials, and soothing yet sleek colors that pay homage to nature itself.
A cornerstone of the group's vision and process is the belief that good architecture and respect for the environment are tethered together ― at the beginning of 2020, they even pledged to be 100% carbon neutral by the end of the year. They operate with durability in mind and conceive timeless concepts that don't give into passing trends while creating with high-quality resources that pose a challenge they're eager to rise to, experimenting with raw natural materials like leather. Their purposeful material choice perfectly supports their sustainable identity, and it's no coincidence that leather is an extremely durable, natural material that's both easy to repair and recyclable ― ensuring that their pieces will accompany you for life.
No surprise that's one of the reasons we're drooling over this project titled Extruded House, which btw has received multiple accolades over the past year from organizations like the Concrete Institute of Australia ― the interior is filled with dark leather pieces that look temptingly smooth. The brand is used to using unexpectedly high-quality fabrics that pose a challenge but upgrade the entire experience and value of their creations, like the classic Eames Lounge Chair which can be spotted in the Extruded House. The weight of the repeated dark black leather is perfectly contrasted by the bright, open concept space that surrounds it ― creating a "best of both worlds" final result that looks as though it could never become dated.
With projects like this, we hope their past 18 years of collaboration go for another couple of decades.
