Already carrying a reputation for unconventional designs, Klug approached de Sede with a "groundbreaking" idea inspired by the ground itself — a sofa meant to resemble a pile of earth. Dubbed the "Terrazza" sofa — translating to "terrace" — the piece is accurately named, constructed of stepped slopes of varying widths and depths inspired by the Swiss landscape. “He had the idea to produce a kind of mountain,” explains his onetime collaborator, Willi Glaeser. “In the Alps the cows walk around leaving horizontal terraces. You see these patterns in this sofa.”

Although initially met with critique from the design community, the piece quickly established itself in the world of iconic '70s glamour, gaining popularity with both celebrities like Mick Jagger as well as other international designers. Persisting today as a piece that manages to be both nostalgic and ultramodern, the versatile two piece sectional comes upholstered in natural nappa leather — left as untreated as possible to achieve a particularly fine, distinctly silky feel.
