Nature and boldness: a penthouse by Shirlei Proença.
Turning the concrete jungle into a vivid but welcoming place took a couple of months, but it was worth it.
A couple of 26-year-olds wished for a fresh space where they could chill and hang out with friends — that was the turning point for local architect Shirlei Proença to demolish several walls and reinvigorate an already existing property in São Paulo.
You’d think reimagining a whole new site would be the most difficult part since the two-month project managed to integrate gaming, dining, and living rooms, in addition to the bathroom and bedroom, in the same space.
But, actually, the hardest part was finding the balance of colors, blending the style of the furniture in a harmonious way with a slight touch of lavishness.
Everything is very modern-looking, especially the locally sourced leather sofa and chairs — known for being a long-lasting and endless source of possibilities. They are certainly eye-catching with their bold designs — similar to a Tomcat Armchair and a Casa Padrino Chesterfield.
But since they are positioned at the right spots, they also give a sense of comfort to the space, turning it into a place where young people could have house parties but also relax when needed.
That’s why the decoration might be the most intriguing part for us — as there aren’t many walls separating each room, it was important to make sure it all made sense when put together.
The whole area shares a bold palette mixed with a touch of nature and the help of natural light coming from a big window. Shirlei made the house look as youthful as possible, not forgetting it should be cozy at the same time — basically a place you could call home as well.
