Marge Sherwood's bags and shoes.
A practical, intuitive heroine with a style adaptable to any situation. If you remember Gwyneth Paltrow's character in The Talented Mr. Ripley, you'll soon understand why she was the inspiration for the Korean brand named Marge Sherwood.
Founded in 2016 by designer duo Sungeun Um and Soonyoung Kim, they create leather bags and shoes for women who know what's going on in fashion, but they also prefer wearable and practical options.
The brand's designs follow an aesthetic that blurs eras, mixing contemporary with heritage, full of references in shapes and color from the '70s and '80s. The platform leather shoes bring back a bit of the disco, the Sandal and Clogs versions can dress up even the most casual of outfits.
But, according to the creators themselves, it's the bags that represent the brand's identity, especially Vava Class. For this piece, they wanted to design a very simple and timeless bag, something minimal and effortless that has a universal appeal. A concept that matches the brand's character, a woman who can be many, changing one thing or another.
Other versatile designs and instant classics are Boston, with the perfect size for an everyday bag, available in several shades of leather; Bassete, which revives the striking model of the '90s in a colorful palette; and the Pump Mini, current and daring.
This is a story that started with two young girls genuinely interested in fashion magazines, but who couldn't buy their favorite brands because of the price, so they started their business to make unique bags at affordable prices.
As they told Forbes, "people might think 'luxury' applies to well-known or expensive items, but we'd like to define it as something that you truly desire, regardless of price and its status."
Speaking of overpriced desires, continue reading.
