Learn why Victoria De Angelis from Måneskin is a force of nature.
There she is on the bass for one of the most well-known bands of all time and wearing some leather designs that probably everyone will try to copy next week.
At 21 yo, Victoria De Angelis is more than her music. She's become a style icon, a symbol for standing up for what she believes in, and an important voice for sharing all her strength with her fans.
Owner of the sickest Instagram in recent years, the girl who in high school just wanted to make heavy metal is now one of the favorite faces of magazines and timeless brands. Here are 4 facts that prove Victoria De Angelis is a force of nature.
1. She is the leader of Måneskin.
If you're used to seeing bands led by the vocalist, forget about it. In addition to founding Måneskin, she chose the name, which means "moonlight" in Danish, inspired by the mother's side of her family. De Angelis also didn't like Damiano David's style right away, because the singer sounded too pop for her young punk ears.
2. She is the leader in style.
Do you like the leather designs worn by Måneskin? Generally, it's De Angelis who chooses, including the unforgettable look used in X-factor by stylist Nick Cerioni. She also stars in Gucci Aria's campaign with the band members, bringing her rebellion to the brand's traditional horse-riding pieces.
In her personal choices, Victoria mixes genderless pieces with colors, textures, and designs from the '70s. It's as if Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, and Harry Styles are all in the same wardrobe. Pantaloon pants are always present, as well as suits in different prints, transparencies, many jackets, and leather boots.
It's not uncommon for her to go about topless, but since patriarchy doesn't allow her to freely show her body, she made an X with black adhesive tape to cover what still shocks the world. She's a '90s riot girl meeting '70s punk in the 2020s.
3. She is the leader of empowerment.
In practically every interview, Måneskin is asked questions about sexuality and gender because of their way of expression. De Angelis is always very open about these topics, encouraging the band's fans to not be afraid of being who they are.
“Stereotypes make us feel wrong, when I was a kid they made me so angry. Now, I'm more serene, perhaps because I've learned to surround myself with open-minded people. Rock embodied that arises of freedom.” She told Elle.
She also talks about her mental health and about being criticized for being a free woman and part of the LGBTQ+ community. For Victoria, nothing is more important than being at peace with yourself and never hiding again.
4. She is the leader of references.
As a 2000s punk girl, Victoria's first idol was Avril Lavigne, something you can still notice in her clothes, now mixed with a bit of Harry Styles and Lady Gaga. In music, her main inspiration is Kim Gordon, the iconic bassist of Sonic Youth.
"In those years, rock was a male world, she always didn't care, she blew every beauty stereotype, in her way of being on stage there was something aggressive, loud, but she conquered thousands of people through her instrument." She told Elle.
As Lorde would say, we need the leader of a new regime, and we vote for Victoria De Angelis.
