Donda’s second listening party by Kanye West.
Another event covered by a mysterious veil — this time a very rough leather veil — finally revealed more details of Donda, Kanye West's mythical album.
Since July, we've known that the artist has been living at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where he held the first listening party on the 22nd. And once again he's opened the doors of his new house, home of this creative process, making us even more anxious.
Obviously, when it comes to Yeezy, the album doesn't come alone. It's always a new era for him and for the culture as we know it, a new beginning, something everyone will talk about, criticize, and try to do too. This time, it looks like the GAP stepped aside, and West appeared in a leather armor from Balenciaga, presenting the creative direction by Demna Gvasalia on this work.
In the middle of the stadium and the stage, Ye appeared as shown in promotional photos: with a mattress, some candles, Balenciaga's leather armor boots, glasses, and his phone. Basically, everything he needs to create the extraordinary. And of course, he floated and made everyone reach space without needing a rocket for much longer than 11 minutes.
If at the last event he left everyone shivering with the possible new collab with his frenemy Jay-Z for Watch the Throne 2, this time it was The Weeknd's angelic voice that further increased the fan hype. And speaking of hype, we even had Yeezy Day by on Adidas during the same period of the month, drop after drop.
The partnership with Gvasalia raises questions about who West will be in this new era: a religious leader or a leader to the top? What we do know is that Balenciaga's creative director is someone with whom Ye shares a creative process that finds beauty in darkness, blending technology, philosophy, and excess. Mr. West, what's next?
Speaking of The Weeknd, Abel needs a break.
