DeLorean Celebrates Anniversary With NFTs by MADSTEEZ
This year, DeLorean‘s DMC-12 celebrates its 40th anniversary and, in honor of this, the automotive company has invited artist MADSTEEZ to create a collection of animated NFTs, including a restored original DMC-12.
Based in California, the artist and designer has already worked with clients such as Nike, Target Corporation, Red Bull, Honda, and Volkswagen.
For the DMC-40 NFT collection, MADSTEEZ has created 40 different animated 3D NFTs that celebrate each year of the car’s existence, tapping into monumental moments of the car’s life such as when it starred in Back To The Future.
But one NFT is more special than the others. A 1-of-1 DeLorean 40th Anniversary Montage NFT will be a fully restored original DMC-12 from 1981, which has been given a comprehensive overhaul and rare updates such as a gray interior, automatic transmission, and affixed one-of-a-kind 40th anniversary DeLorean steel tag.
Additionally, the company will be offering the: DeLorean The Start of it All (1981) NFT, which comes with a slot for the DeLorean Redux program.
Other NFTs come with a pair of the Nike 6.0 Dunk SE DeLorean, an original Back to the Future movie poster in a steel frame, and more, such as digital cars that can be raced exclusively in the video game Riot Racers.
But, why the hype?
The DeLorean DMC-12 is loved by car enthusiasts from all over the world. Besides being a Hollywood icon, it's a valuable collectible, has a stainless steel body with gull-wing doors, and was designed by one of the best automotive designers ever, the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign, who was responsible for other icons like the Maserati Ghibli, BMW M1, and the Lotus Esprit.
There weren't many cars with gull-wing doors when the DeLorean was launched in the market. The long hood, wide-body, and gull-wing doors gave it a dramatic look. It also had small cut windows in place of full windows which operated electronically.
It was a car that represented the zeitgeist of the '80s and, at the same time, it had a timeless futuristic air, as represented by the retro & space visual artist @visualdon.
Besides, the seats were known to be quite comfortable, covered with leather, and behind them, there was a small storage area. It also featured a speed proportional rack and pinion steering wheel.
Definitely, a comfortable way to escape the present.
Oh, how we love to talk about the DeLorean DMC-12. Love to read? Here it is more about it.
