Auction of Air Jordan 11, and Air Force 1 Hare is the new Space Jam sneaker.
English auction house Sotheby's has a treasure in its hands again. The company responsible for selling Kanye West's Nike Air Yeezy 1 as the world's most expensive kicks, now has the job of caring for an out-of-this-world item.
The Michael Jordan 'Space Jam' aka Player Sample Deadstock Air Jordan 11 is considered one of the rarest shoes of all time and has never been worn. Even though it was created exclusively for Jump Man to wear in the 1996 movie, one of the most coveted sneakers in history remains untouched.
Sotheby's announced that the shoe went up for auction just in time for the film's sequel to premiere, now with King LeBron James joining the Looney Tunes team. The Player Sample was produced in black leather and is still intact to this day. You can check it out if you're in London, it'll be on display until July 26. And as a collector's item, this pair comes in a wooden box carved by Project Blitz and comes with the bottle used to defeat the monsters in the first movie. Seriously.
[Updated 7.28] The size 13 Space Jam Nikes autographed by Jordan were sold for US$176,400 at Sotheby’s, going against the US$150,000 to US$200,000 estimate.
Take a look at our interviewee and professional AJs collector Marvin Barias showing in detail the differences between Space Jam’s kicks.
But if you also want to have your own version of sneakers that save the universe, but can't shell out around US$200,000, be aware that the new Space Jam 'Hare' is already among us. It might not be so easy to cop this Air Force 1 embossed with Lola and Bugs Bunny, but it's worth a try.
The silhouette you already know comes in white and blue leather all over the structure. The hares appear in their basketball costumes, both on the sides of the pairs and on their tongue tags. This pair is available — not for long — on Nike's website and at authorized stores for about US$120, but it's quite possible that it will soon be up for auction as well.
