ASHYA creates pieces you can carry for generations
Through our previous interview with Ashley Cimone and Moya Annece, we uncovered the driving concept behind the pair's travel good brand, ASHYA. Seeking to create travel products that elevated the cheaper options available in the market, ASHYA was founded with lasting quality at the top of mind, along with reverence for the cultures of many places the two pulled inspiration from in their designs — making material a key aspect of their creative process.
Every detail matters when it comes to fulfilling the crucial cornerstones of their brand: durability, personal heritage, and global culture. That's why we asked the founding duo about the intention behind using leather as the brand's lead material, and their mindset goes deep.
"As far as choosing leather, when we first got to India we found these particular belt bags that we were very practical for us. At the time, what we wanted to find was something a bit more elevated and reflective of our style. A lot of what was on the market were these sort of nylon, Disney-mom fanny packs — and that's just not the direction we wanted to head in in terms of the development, the look and feel." Moya Annece
Prioritizing durability not only in their products, Ashley & Moya founded the brand with the goal of bringing that built-to-last quality to the DNA of ASHYA's heritage itself.
"Leather is durable — and it is a by-product of an existing food market. We wanted to find ways to incorporate something that would allow us to create forever bags. For us, it was about wanting to create a bag that someone could go back to ten, twenty years from now — and it could still look beautiful. Something you can pass down to your niece, daughter, son, because it's so durable that it lasts. Everything is about longevity — we always design with heritage and longevity in mind." Ashley Cimone
Nothin' beats a built-to-last brand.
