"My inspiration is what I feel, hear and see".
Chaotic colorful and fun leather pieces by Mariam Gvasalia
When in Milan u can def meet people who are changing the way bold handmade leather shoes are made (🙌🙌). In the city where u can rock any fit possible, we got to see Mariam Gvasalia's pieces close n personal — & even have a chat w/ her.
The Georgian designer mixes bold colors with textured leather pieces in a deep connection w/ her own style & latest streetwear. Her history is full of success, like winning a contest called 'Be Next' right after graduating @ Tbilisi Academy Of Arts. That's when there was a huge boom in her brand:: the Russian designer Vika Gazinskaya bought her shoes, she was part of Tbilisi Fashion Week & a buyer named Al Duca d’Aosta ordered the whole collection (we would've done the same, u know).
Her proposal of connecting with & reaching young generations is something she always had in mind. When asked what's her rule for creating such unique items she said:
"I always try fashion trends and make something new at the same time, without losing identity. The most important aspect of making shoes is proportion. I always work within the boundaries of an initial idea."
Besides getting inspired by everyday street style (including her own), Mariam creates her collections w/ insights from her surroundings:
"My inspiration is what I feel, hear and see — communication w/ friends, our problems, latest events, etc. For example, my latest collection was about health topics w/ one of the key pieces being stethoscope heel shoes, because I had a 2-year experience in the medical field".
As u may know, there is a scene of lthr footwear in Europe w/ historical and classic pieces, and Gvasalia belongs to a movement that brings even more life to the use of timeless materials, like leather. As she says,
"My style is chaotic, colorful, and fun. My work is sometimes romantic, sometimes sportswear, classic or everything together. The same happens with leather pieces, sometimes they're vintage and refined, sometimes rough and chaotic".
& we can't get her statement pieces off our minds, from clothes and footwear made of the best suede to a fire design. Keep scrolling to see +++ of her creations.
Even her choice of the perf leather piece contributes to her desire for one-of-a-kind pieces that match all our personalities in one pair of shoes. She bases her work on those materials for shaping and designing her collections.
